The day of the dead

Too often, daily life and routine leads us into the believe that we are immortal. In such a case, the impact of a death in our personal circle is very strong. Not only it confronts us with the fact that we are mortal, but it also rattles our internal believe system.

How can we leas ourselves into this belief, if death happens every single day?

In all times, all societies and cultures, people have tried to find ways and means to confront and deal with death. In Mexico, every year people celebrate "The Day of the Dead" - el Dia de los Muertos. Offerings are made to the ones that already parted and they are depicted in daily life scences, enjoying their life on the other side.

Traditional Offering

I'd like to share some visual impressions of these with you; in particular, a set photos I have taken on a photowalk through the traditional offerings installed in the UNAM on the day of the death.

"A warrior thinks about his death, when things become chaotic and difficult to manage."

"This is even more difficult, Don Juan. For most people death is something dubious and very distant. We never think about it."

"Why not?"

"Why should we?"

"Very simple", he said, "because the thought about death is the only thing that moderates our mind."
